In this session, SPM Assets and Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) will co-present on how they delivered a state-wide Asset Collection and Condition Assessment project in 2023/24. The assessments have laid the groundwork for robust long-term asset and financial planning within TfNSW and has resulted in various accolades and recognition within the department.

The purpose of the project was to develop an extensive asset register through an infield condition assessment programme of around 300 Asset and Workplace Services sites across New South Wales – using an approach aligned with IPWEA Practice Note 3. The assessments included an initial generalist assessment of core asset lifecycle information, followed by a second stage of drone and specialist assessments to determine total asset conditions.

The benefits of the project from TfNSW’s perspective include:

  • Adam Chamberlain, Director of Facilities Management Asset & Workplace Services at TfNSW, has been awarded the TfNSW State Government Corporate Services Award for "Inspiring Innovator (individual)" for his leadership and contributions to this project.
  • Positive feedback has poured in from various departments within TfNSW, highlighting the asset register's invaluable role in diverse projects.
  • The Transport Asset Custodian Platform (TACP) project team endorsed the alignment of SPM Assets' dataset with their objectives, recognising it as the standard for property assets within their framework.
