The Shire of Mingenew, in collaboration with Veris, is revolutionising unsealed road management using advanced technology. This presentation will highlight the significant benefits of integrating technology for comprehensive road assessment management
3D Ground Penetrating Radar (3D GPR): 3D GPR technology precisely detects and measures gravel depth beneath unsealed roads, providing detailed subsurface images to identify variations in gravel layers and thickness. This supports accurate volume and width calculations essential for effective asset management. 3D GPR offers critical insights into surface and subsurface conditions, including moisture content and compaction levels, facilitating data-driven maintenance and renewal decisions
Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS): MLS captures high-resolution 3D data of the road surface, efficiently identifying surface irregularities such as rutting, corrugations and cracking. The geospatial accuracy of MLS ensures precise mapping and alignment with geographic coordinates, enhancing overall analysis and decision-making. By rapidly collecting detailed surface data, MLS supports accurate condition assessment and facilitates timely pavement management interventions.
Integrated Data Solutions: Integrating data through the Veris RoadSiDe platform offers a comprehensive 3D view of the road network. This platform provides powerful 2D and 3D visualisation and analysis tools, enabling users to access, share, and collaborate on asset data in real time. Combining high-quality data with machine learning and AI tools within the platform ensures efficient identification, interrogation & classification of road conditions.
Project Benefits: This integrated approach enhances road safety and longevity by identifying potential issues early. It ensures optimal cost efficiency in road maintenance and management through accurate condition reports. The project demonstrates the potential of 3D GPR and MLS technologies to reduce environmental impact, improve budget transparency, and support strategic decision-making for unsealed road management
We will present the methodology, data collection, processing techniques, and tangible outcomes achieved, underscoring the value of advanced spatial data technologies for sustainable and efficient unsealed road management.
