ASA has been engaged by Enzen on behalf of Energy Queensland (EQL) since 2021 to integrate multiple legacy datasets into a Unified Geographic Information System (UGIS), creating a ‘single source of truth’ for Queensland’s electrical infrastructure.

EQL is a Queensland Government-owned utility formed after Energex and Ergon amalgamated. Since these were separate entities, an enormous amount of highly technical work was required: data extraction, entry, quality control, and building electrical networks from field information and legacy systems. ASA’s team cleans, validates, and merges asset datasets using the Esri ArcGIS Pro Utility Network Model (UNM), the utility management benchmark, implementing complex network data principles. The UGIS reflects the real-world Queensland electrical grid.

ASA developed multiple training modules capturing standardised technical processes across multiple software to meet various use cases required for processing this geographic asset data, ensuring quality and consistency. Analysts have undertaken data checks and updates over 53,000 sites across 16,000 tasks and 68,000 hours (see https://www.asanalytics.com.au/geospatial-case-studies/enzen-australia-energy-queensland-electricity-asset-management)

EQL’s UNM is the largest deployment globally and one of the largest projects of its kind, with over 25 million spatial features and 300,000 subnetworks: millions more will be created as the grid expands. ASA has had, on average, 33 full-time equivalent staff on this project since 2021. It has brought critical infrastructure spatial data services back onshore, contributing over $5 million to the Australian economy. ASA now has over 50 qualified UNM users—one of the largest of any spatial consultancy in Australia, with additional cross-training in GE Smallworld and Bentley Microstation. The Geospatial Council of Australia also recognised ASA's work as this project won the 2023 Technical Excellence Award (Queensland).

In this session, you’ll learn how Enzen and Energy Queensland have embraced neurodiversity’s unique spatial skills to enable effective asset management while also creating enormous social impact for young neurodivergent adults.
